WebLog6 The Impact of a teacher's website
A teacher web site is great tool for the teacher as well as their students and parents. I believe one of the greatest benefits is it encourages students to become independent learners. I have watched my three younger children, the oldest is just 6 years old, learn to navigate the wii on their own. They actually have to help me. Their skill level on each game has gradually increased. I would love to design a website for my class were the students would want to log in everyday and independently develop their own skills and understanding. A website can also help organize and manage the classroom. An interactive calendar, and grade book helps everyone stay on the same page. The web based needs of a teacher are calendar, grade book, online quizzes and exams, and the ability to contact both parents and students. Students need study guides that are short, clear and easy to follow. They also need exciting links and games that will captivate their imagination. It would also allow them the ability to have study groups where they can post questions and chat online. Learning is much more powerful when it is done as a community. I believe it would add to the excitement if you add some of the students culture like music, sports, or news. It would be beneficial for the students to have access 24 hour a day; allowing each student the opportunity to learn when it is convenient for them.

WebLog 6 Reaction to Jenkins
THE EMPOWERMENT OF STUDENTS
Empowerment comes from making meaningful decisions. This clip demonstrates how students take control of their education because their teacher refuses to make progress.

ED 586 WebLob 2 Technology & Narrative
It is amazing how we as humans have been so influenced by technology and story telling. So many ancient cultures and present day culture can be identified by both. What's even more significant is the fact that both technology (tools) and story telling were apart of human culture way before written language. What this implies is that we as a species learn fundamentally through imitation of tool usage and narratives or stories. Our culture, human culture is derived from pass down stories and technology.
What gives technology and story telling a deeper understanding is the understanding of the developing sequence. How are things connected, and how are they organize? To be able to see the and understand the chronological order of events brings both stories and technology alive.
I was blown away at the idea that in order to be effective in both story telling and technology we need a mental projection of sequence. In other words you need be able to see in your mind how all the pieces of the puzzle connected, or at least how you believe they are organized and connected. This is powerful because technology and narratives is the basic building blocks of all human culture and they both show that people have always learned new ideas when they are presented with a chronological order. It also shows that technology and narratives is vital to the human process of learning and needs to be infused into the classroom environment. Written words were the last thing established in human culture.
I believe that both technology and story telling engages all aspects of human development. This is what makes learning three dimensional, giving us a better more meaningful understanding.

Technology and Students
I see technology as the icing on an awesome cake. As an educator I must stay well informed and prepare my lectures to grab the students' attention. I will use technology just to add variety. In other words I want to find a balance with using technology. But learning how to blog is funny and interesting!
