ED 586 WebLob 2 Technology & Narrative

It is amazing how we as humans have been so influenced by technology and story telling. So many ancient cultures and present day culture can be identified by both. What's even more significant is the fact that both technology (tools) and story telling were apart of human culture way before written language. What this implies is that we as a species learn fundamentally through imitation of tool usage and narratives or stories. Our culture, human culture is derived from pass down stories and technology.
What gives technology and story telling a deeper understanding is the understanding of the developing sequence. How are things connected, and how are they organize? To be able to see the and understand the chronological order of events brings both stories and technology alive.
I was blown away at the idea that in order to be effective in both story telling and technology we need a mental projection of sequence. In other words you need be able to see in your mind how all the pieces of the puzzle connected, or at least how you believe they are organized and connected. This is powerful because technology and narratives is the basic building blocks of all human culture and they both show that people have always learned new ideas when they are presented with a chronological order. It also shows that technology and narratives is vital to the human process of learning and needs to be infused into the classroom environment. Written words were the last thing established in human culture.
I believe that both technology and story telling engages all aspects of human development. This is what makes learning three dimensional, giving us a better more meaningful understanding.
